How a Shark Tank Deal with Mark Cuban Transformed Baby Food Allergy Prevention
A baby food company that helps prevent childhood allergies has grown rapidly since its appearance on Shark Tank. Ready Set Food, founded by Katie Marks-Cogan, Daniel Zakowski, and Andrew Leitner, offers powdered formulas containing common allergens like peanuts, milk, and eggs. Their products are now sold at major retailers, including Costco and Amazon, after securing a deal with investor Mark Cuban in 2020.
The idea for Ready Set Food came from Katie Marks-Cogan's personal experience. She tested early exposure to allergenic foods with her own child, which inspired the company's approach. Their formulas are designed for babies in stages 1 and 2, providing essential proteins and fibers while reducing allergy risks.
Before Shark Tank, the team sold products online but needed funding to expand. On the show, they requested $350,000 for 7% equity. Mark Cuban countered with an offer of $350,000 for 12%, including 2% for advisory support. He also agreed to donate one product to low-income families for every unit sold.
The company's ingredients—organic, non-GMO, and free from artificial additives—set it apart from competitors like Happy Baby Organics, which does not focus on allergy prevention. After the deal, sales surged, and Ready Set Food became widely available in stores and online.
Ready Set Food remains active today, with its products stocked on Amazon, its website, and major retailers. The partnership with Mark Cuban helped boost distribution and brand recognition. Their allergen-friendly formulas continue to serve parents looking for safe, early exposure solutions for their babies.
