In autism spectrum disorders, diet's impact varies based on symptom severity. Ultra-processed foods, high sugar, and trans fats can be detrimental, while a Mediterranean diet supplemented with prebiotics and probiotics may offer benefits. Olive oil, rich in omega-3s and polyphenols, also provides anti-inflammatory effects that support mental health.

The evidence is compelling: diet directly influences mental health conditions. A Mediterranean-style eating pattern, abundant in healthy fats, fibre, and whole foods, can alleviate symptoms of depression, anxiety, and ADHD. Conversely, processed foods and unstable blood sugar often exacerbate these conditions.
