A Boston-based startup is set to revolutionize infant nutrition with a pioneering formula. Harmony Baby Nutrition, founded by Del Alfonso, is developing hypoallergenic baby formulas using molecular science. Their first product, Melodi, will launch in the U.S. by 2026 and claims to closely mimic human breast milk.

Current baby formulas often rely heavily on cow’s milk and face issues like contamination risks, leading to frequent recalls. Harmony Baby Nutrition aims to solve these problems with safer, sterile, and ready-to-use alternatives.

Melodi stands out from traditional formulas, which are typically less than 3% similar to breast milk. Instead, it contains lactose and human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs), making it nearly 50% comparable to natural breast milk. The company believes this will improve acceptance among infants. To further advance its research, Harmony Baby Nutrition plans to open a dedicated development centre in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The facility will focus on cutting-edge studies in infant nutrition.

Melodi’s arrival in 2026 could offer parents a new option in hypoallergenic baby nutrition. The formula’s high similarity to breast milk and sterile production process may address long-standing industry challenges. The company’s expansion into Brazil also signals a commitment to ongoing research in this field.
