Girl, 12, Recovers 80% Vision After Flash-Bang Grenade Explosion
A 12-year-old girl from Vladivostok suffered severe eye injuries after a flash-bang grenade with fragmentation effects exploded near her. She was urgently taken to Primorsky Krai Clinical Hospital No. 2, where doctors worked to stabilise her condition and assess the damage. Upon arrival, medics diagnosed her with an eye contusion, corneal damage, retinal swelling, and multiple other injuries. Maxillofacial surgeons and specialists from the ophthalmic trauma unit immediately removed several foreign objects lodged in her face and eye.
After emergency treatment, she was moved to the hospital’s paediatric eye department for further care. Over nearly two weeks, doctors managed to restore her vision from just 10% to 80%. Their efforts focused on repairing the extensive damage caused by the explosion. Once stable, she was discharged from the hospital. Her recovery will continue under the supervision of an ophthalmologist in her hometown.
The girl’s vision has significantly improved, reaching 80% after intensive treatment. She will now receive ongoing care to monitor her progress and ensure a full recovery. The incident highlights the severe risks posed by explosive devices, even in non-combat situations.
