Freiburg launches National Fitness Badge assessments in May 2026
Residents of Freiburg can once again put their fitness to the test and earn Germany's National Fitness Badge. Starting in May 2026, Freiburg will host assessment dates for the badge, with opportunities available through September. According to the city, participants can measure their performance in endurance, strength, speed, and coordination.
The National Fitness Badge is the highest honor awarded outside competitive sports, recognizing achievements in disciplines such as athletics, swimming, cycling, and gymnastics. Depending on performance, the badge is awarded in bronze, silver, or gold, with requirements adjusted by age and gender.
A highlight is scheduled for Friday, July 3, 2026, when the nationwide Fitness Badge Tour makes a stop at Freiburg's Seepark Stadium and Westbad pool.
The city also notes that people with disabilities can earn the badge. Additionally, proof of swimming proficiency—which must be renewed regularly—is required.
Many of Freiburg's sports clubs are supporting the initiative by offering training sessions and assessment dates. Registration is mandatory for some events.
