Facebook's AI Coach Launches 19 May with Personalized Wellness Plans

Facebook is launching a new AI-powered health tool called The Coach on 19 May 2023. The service will offer personalised wellness guidance as part of the Facebook Health Premium subscription.

The tool combines health research with individual data to create tailored fitness, nutrition, and sleep recommendations for users worldwide. The Coach will first roll out to Fitbit and Pixel Watch users, with support for additional devices planned later. It analyses multiple data sources, including fitness metrics, sleep patterns, nutrition logs, cycle tracking, and environmental factors.

For users in the U.S., the service will soon sync with personal medical records. Workout plans will adapt to individual needs, offering step-by-step instructions and custom routines. Weekly insights on sleep consistency and health trends will also be provided.

Facebook has confirmed that health and wellness data collected by The Coach will not be used for targeted advertising. The system relies on Gemini AI models and a SHARP evaluation framework to ensure advice remains safe, accurate, and relevant.

Subscribers to Facebook Health Premium will gain access to The Coach for $9.99 per month or $99 annually. The service aims to deliver evidence-based guidance by blending established wellness principles with cutting-edge research.

The Coach’s recommendations will adjust over time, responding to changes in a user’s health metrics and goals. This adaptive approach sets it apart from static wellness apps currently on the market. The Coach will be available globally from 19 May as part of Facebook’s paid health subscription. Users with compatible wearables can sign up to receive AI-driven fitness plans, sleep analysis, and personalised health insights.

The tool’s integration with medical records and strict data privacy policies mark a new direction for Facebook’s health services. No user data from The Coach will be shared with advertisers or used outside the platform.
