A walkable brain? New exhibition house coming - Erfurt's Bold New Addiction Education Centre Breaks Ground in 2024

A new exhibition centre focused on addiction education is set to rise in Erfurt's Old Town. The World of Temptations Foundation plans to break ground this year, with funding from Germany's Federal Ministry of Health. The project aims to blend art, science, and interactive learning to tackle dependency issues in fresh ways.

The foundation recently previewed its approach with an exhibition titled Only Good Vibes? Cannabis, Smoke, and Reality. This temporary show gave visitors a taste of how the future centre will explore addiction through engaging, thought-provoking displays.

The heart of the new facility will be the Brain Space, an immersive area examining the neurological roots of addiction. Plans include an interactive brain model and possibly a walk-through exhibit. Beyond this, the centre will host permanent and rotating exhibitions, art installations, and hands-on activities covering a wide range of dependencies.

Before construction begins, archaeological surveys will take place this spring. The site's history will be documented, though no specific firm has been named to lead the excavations. Once complete, the centre will also feature an Innovation Hub, a collaborative space for addiction researchers and healthcare professionals.

The foundation expects to open the centre by autumn 2027. Its mix of science, art, and interactive exhibits will offer a new way to educate the public about addiction. The project marks a significant step in Germany's approach to prevention and research.
