Doctors warn of summer spike in children swallowing dangerous objects
Doctors in Nizhny Novgorod have treated a surge in cases of children swallowing or inhaling foreign objects. Over a single week, medical teams removed dozens of items from young patients. The incidents all took place just before the summer holidays began. The objects extracted ranged from small toys to everyday items. Among them were LEGO pieces, which some children had accidentally inhaled. Medical staff worked quickly to prevent complications in each case.
Ear, nose and throat surgeon Grigory Belozorov urged parents to stay calm if a child inhales an object. He stressed the importance of seeking professional help without delay.
Endoscopist Aleksandr Dvoryaninov gave clear advice for cases where a child swallows something dangerous. He warned against forcing the child to vomit or offering food and drink. Instead, he recommended taking the child straight to hospital for proper assessment. The spike in incidents highlights the risks young children face with small objects. Doctors have repeated their call for parents to act fast and avoid home remedies. Immediate medical care remains the safest response in such emergencies.
