Disabled man dies after falling from nursing home window in Sosnovka

A 56-year-old man with disabilities has died after falling from a third-floor window at a specialised nursing home in Sosnovka. The incident took place overnight between June 7 and 8, 2026, at the Vilyuisk Specialized Nursing Home for the Elderly and Disabled. Authorities have now launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. The Vilyuisk nursing home opened in July 2021 as part of Russia’s national Demography project. Marketed as the country’s first facility of its kind, it spans 4,600 square meters across three floors. The building included modern medical offices, specialised dormitories, and a staff of 75 employees. Officials had promised residents 'round-the-clock supervision' as a core feature of the care provided.

The Vilyuisk District Prosecutor’s Office has begun inspecting the facility’s compliance with social service and residential safety rules. Prosecutors are examining how the fall could have happened despite the home’s strict oversight claims. They will also determine whether any legal violations contributed to the tragedy. If wrongdoing is uncovered, the authorities have stated they will pursue appropriate legal action against those responsible.
