Diabetes awareness event unites experts and public for healthier futures

A recent diabetes awareness event brought together health experts, organisations, and the public to promote better understanding of the condition. Lulu Hypermarket took part in the session Health & Diabetes... A Relationship of Awareness, showcasing products designed for diabetes management and healthier living. The initiative aimed to improve knowledge on prevention, early detection, and lifestyle choices. The event was organised by the Student Affairs Deanship at the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training, in partnership with the Construction Training Institute. Over 200 trainees, staff, and faculty members attended the session, which featured educational booths, free medical screenings, and interactive activities.

A health fair included more than 15 organisations from government, private, and non-profit sectors. Lulu Hypermarket set up sampling stations offering nutritious, sugar-free, and low-glycemic products suitable for daily use. The supermarket chain also highlighted its commitment to community health by promoting diabetes-friendly alternatives.

Ms. Zahraa Rahma from the Dasman Diabetes Institute delivered an awareness lecture titled Diabetes Under Control. The event fostered a lively atmosphere, encouraging engagement through education and practical advice.

Worldwide, diabetes remains a growing concern, with around 540 million adults affected in 2021—roughly one in ten people. Projections suggest this number could rise to over 783 million by 2045. Countries with the highest prevalence include Pakistan (30.8%), Egypt (26.5%), and Indonesia (24.3%), according to the 2021 IDF Diabetes Atlas. The session provided attendees with resources for managing diabetes and adopting healthier habits. Free screenings, expert talks, and product samples helped reinforce the importance of early detection and lifestyle adjustments. Organisers and participants alike contributed to raising awareness in the community.
