City Hall worker's kindness transforms a painful visit into relief
A Kakaako resident has shared her appreciation for a City Hall worker who went out of his way to help her husband. Cynthia Lee’s spouse, who suffers from severe sciatica, struggled with discomfort during a recent visit to Ala Moana Satellite City Hall. The kindness of a staff member made the experience far easier for them both. On May 29, Cynthia Lee accompanied her husband to Ala Moana Satellite City Hall for an appointment. His condition—sciatica in his right leg—meant he could only stand for short periods and needed soft seating to avoid pain. Sitting on a hard bench while waiting proved difficult.
Teanu, a City Hall employee, noticed the couple’s situation and took action. He checked them in promptly and allowed the husband to wait inside on padded chairs instead of the usual benches. This small adjustment made a big difference.
After assisting them, Teanu went further by processing the husband’s disability parking placard application himself. He also helped other clients whenever possible. Before leaving, Cynthia Lee expressed her gratitude for his support. The husband’s doctor had already approved him for a disability parking placard due to his condition. With Teanu’s help, the application was handled smoothly. The experience highlighted how a little consideration can ease difficulties for those with mobility challenges.
