Braunschweig Fan Group Donates €10,000 to Pediatric Cancer Care
A fan group from Braunschweig has donated €10,000 to the city's pediatric oncology department. The money will help children with cancer and their families. The donation comes from Schaika Braunschweig, a group that has supported the hospital for over three decades.
The ultras group Schaika Braunschweig handed over the funds to Dr. Andreas Beilken, head of the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. Group members Luca F. and Leon M. presented the cheque during a small ceremony. Senior physician Dr. Johanna Scheer-Preis also attended, sharing memories of Mark, a former patient whose death in 2014 inspired the group's ongoing work.
The donation was raised through private initiatives at a recent event organised by the group. Since 1994, Schaika Braunschweig has run projects like family support programmes, wish fulfilment for sick children, and fundraising events such as the annual Schaika Ball. They have also funded a family house near the clinic and provided psychosocial counselling.
Dr. Beilken thanked the group for their long-term commitment. The money will go towards the oncology team's work, helping to create moments of joy and normalcy for children and their families during treatment.
The €10,000 donation will support the pediatric oncology department's daily efforts. Staff remember Mark's impact, and the group continues its work in his honour. The funds will directly benefit children undergoing cancer treatment and their families.
