Boy, 9, Survives Life-Threatening Brain Injury After Scooter Fall
A nine-year-old boy with a severe traumatic brain injury was saved by doctors at Nakhodka City Hospital after he fell from a scooter in Nakhodka, the hospital's Telegram channel reported.
The child suffered a head injury when he lost control of his scooter, fell, and struck his head. Outwardly, the damage appeared minor—just a small bruise and swelling. After sleeping, however, he developed a sudden severe headache and episodes of vomiting. By the time he was rushed to the hospital, he was already in a confused state.
A CT scan revealed a skull fracture and a large intracranial hematoma. According to the medical facility, a team of specialists—neurosurgeon Alexander Boyko, anesthesiologist Grigory Patsyuk, and nurses Tatyana Drozd and Natalya Paisova—fought for the boy's life in a roughly two-hour emergency surgery.
Doctors performed a craniotomy, removing about 100 ml of blood clots and locating the source of the bleeding—a damaged artery in the brain. The vessel was treated and sealed using specialized equipment. Following the procedure, the boy's condition stabilized, and he was discharged from the hospital for outpatient monitoring and further rehabilitation.
