Violations Were Everywhere
An inspection of stores selling dietary supplements and sports nutrition in Belarus has uncovered widespread irregularities, according to a report by the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade (MART).
Inspectors found violations at every location. Some were minor—such as failing to provide access to a complaints log or not displaying required seller information for customers. But most cases involved far more serious issues.
In 65% of the inspected stores, products with expired shelf lives were found on the shelves—some of which had been expired for over six months.
Two stores in Brest were forced to remove more than 130 expired sports nutrition products, with a total value of around 6,000 rubles.
A retail outlet in Grodno was also caught selling expired goods. Inspectors confiscated 15 types of dietary supplements worth 750 rubles, some of which had expired as far back as August 2025.
A store in Mogilev fared slightly better, though inspectors still found unsafe supplements worth 700 rubles.
Minsk was no exception. Two stores in the capital had over 840 rubles' worth of products seized.
Following the inspection, MART issued 13 recommendations to address violations and 13 orders to halt the sale of expired goods. The total value of expired products removed from circulation exceeded 9,200 rubles.
Authorities have not stopped there. Several online retailers received warnings from the Ministry of Health after dangerous products were found on their platforms. Testing revealed that some supplements contained far higher concentrations of active ingredients than declared—posing risks of toxic organ damage (particularly to the liver), as well as vitamin and mineral overdoses.
