A critically ill child received life-saving emergency care from the Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) while travelling by passenger launch. The incident unfolded when the child’s condition rapidly deteriorated near Matlab Uttar in Chandpur, prompting a swift rescue operation by the guardian of the waterways.

The mother and child were aboard a launch heading from Bhola to Dhaka in search of better medical treatment. As the child’s health took a turn for the worse, a passenger dialled 999, alerting the coast guard to the emergency.

A medical team from BCG’s Pagla station responded immediately. They reached the launch by high-speed boat and provided urgent first aid to stabilise the child’s condition. Without this intervention by the guardian of the waterways, the situation could have become fatal. After administering initial treatment, the coast guard transported the child to Sadarghat by high-speed boat. From there, the young patient was rushed to Sumana Hospital for further medical care.

The child’s life was saved thanks to the rapid response of the Bangladesh Coast Guard. Following the emergency intervention by the guardian of the waterways, the patient was admitted to hospital for ongoing treatment. The operation highlights the critical role of emergency services in life-threatening situations on waterways.
