A popular grocery store in Baltimore's Hampden neighbourhood has shut its doors after health inspectors discovered a rodent infestation. MOM's Organic Market was ordered to close following an inspection that uncovered mouse droppings, dead pests, and contaminated food products.

The Baltimore City Department of Health issued the closure notice after a three-hour inspection on Wednesday. During the visit, inspectors found mouse droppings scattered across the store, including in the candy aisle and bulk food section. Some products showed signs of being chewed by rodents.

An earlier pest control report from March 5 had already revealed five dead mice and cockroaches inside the store. The inspector instructed the market to thoroughly clean and sanitise all surfaces and arrange an emergency pest control treatment. The health department has confirmed that the store must remain closed until it passes a reinspection. The timing of this follow-up check will be decided by the Baltimore City Health Department. There is no record of previous closures at this MOM's Organic Market location due to pest issues or similar violations.

The store will only reopen once it meets health and safety standards. Officials have not yet set a date for the reinspection. Customers will need to shop elsewhere until the infestation is fully resolved.
