A three-day technical training programme took place in Assam at the end of January 2026. Organised by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), SPHL Assam, and Sciex Bangalore, it focused on testing fortified rice for essential vitamins using advanced lab techniques.

The event ran from January 28 to 30 at the Commissionerate of Food Safety in Assam. Participants learned to measure Vitamin B9 (folate) and B12 in Fortified Rice (FR) and Fortified Rice Kernels (FRK) using LC-MS/MS technology.

By February 2026, six Indian states and regions had already held similar training sessions. Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, and Gujarat all conducted programmes to build expertise in vitamin analysis for fortified rice.

The Assam programme expanded the use of LC-MS/MS testing across India. With more states adopting the method, accurate monitoring of fortified rice quality is now more widespread. This supports efforts to improve nutrition through food fortification.
