37th Anniversary Celebration "37 Years of the Women's Archive Arnsberg"

Arnsberg Women's Archive celebrates 37 years of feminist history on May 30

The Arnsberg Women’s Archive will mark its 37th anniversary on May 30, 2023. A special event will take place at Wedinghausen Monastery, bringing together history, discussion, and celebration. Organisers have planned a full programme to honour the archive’s legacy and explore the future of feminist archiving. Founded in late 1989 by Petra Kersting, the Arnsberg Women’s Archive holds a significant place in German history. It was the country’s first women’s archive, officially recognised in January 1990. The anniversary event will reflect on its journey while addressing current trends in preserving feminist records.

The celebration runs from 1 p.m. until the close of an open exchange session. Attendees can join a guided city tour, an exhibition visit, and artistic performances. Panel discussions will also feature, offering space for dialogue on feminist archiving. The event is a collaboration between the Office for Gender Equality, Arnsberg City Archives, and the Cultural Office. Partnering with them is ausZeiten, a Bochum-based organisation founded in 1995. Dedicated to preserving and sharing feminist history in Westphalia, ausZeiten will contribute to the day’s discussions and activities.

The anniversary will take place in the chapter hall of Wedinghausen Monastery. Through tours, performances, and debates, it aims to honour the archive’s past and shape its future. The event remains open to all until the final exchange concludes.
