Amplifye's P24 Enzyme Promises Better Protein Digestion and Nutrient Boost
Amplifye, a biotech startup from UC Davis, has released its first product—a novel enzyme called P24. The company claims the enzyme boosts protein digestion, making nutrients more accessible to the digestive system. Now available as a dietary supplement, P24 is already drawing attention for its potential health benefits.
Founded in 2019, Amplifye specialises in improving how proteins break down in the digestive system. Using computational design, the team identified P24 from a family of proteases known as S53. This enzyme begins breaking down proteins earlier in the stomach, reducing digestive strain while increasing amino acid absorption.
The company asserts that P24 unlocks extra nutritional value from food, delivering more essential compounds per gram. Early research also suggests benefits like better blood sugar control and improved sleep quality. To back these claims, Amplifye has filed a patent related to glucose management and plans a human clinical trial soon.
P24 has already received self-affirmed GRAS status, meaning it's recognised as safe for consumption. CEO John Melo has indicated long-term plans to develop over 20 more enzymes using the same platform technology. The supplement is now on sale directly to consumers.
With P24 now in the market, Amplifye aims to reshape how people absorb protein from their diets. The enzyme's early digestion process and enhanced nutrient release could offer tangible health equity advantages. Further studies and additional enzyme developments are expected to follow in the coming years.
