143 Misconduct Reports Rock Lausanne's University Hospital in Six Months
A new reporting office at Lausanne's university hospital, CHUV, has received 143 complaints of problematic behaviour in just six months. The cases range from bullying to sexual harassment, raising concerns about workplace safety. Victims often fear repercussions, putting their careers and well-being at risk when speaking out.
Between July 2025 and January 2026, CHUV's Cellule safe office logged 143 reports of misconduct. Of these, 20 were escalated to human resources for further action. Eleven serious allegations remain under active investigation.
Around 300 discussions took place with victims and witnesses to gather detailed accounts. In response, CHUV has already dismissed two employees, issued four formal warnings, and handed out four reprimands. Director General Claire Charmet has acknowledged the difficulty of safeguarding those who report misconduct. She has called for broader collaboration among hospitals to tackle the issue effectively. Meanwhile, trade unions and professional bodies are pushing for stronger measures and clearer sanctions to address the problem.
The findings highlight ongoing challenges in protecting staff who report workplace abuses. CHUV's actions so far include dismissals, warnings, and internal reviews. Trade unions continue to demand systemic changes to ensure safer working conditions across the healthcare sector.
