Survey: Four in Five Find Preventive Care Important - But Only Half Actually Go - Why fewer than half of Germans attend regular health check-ups

A new survey reveals that only 42 percent of insured people in Germany attend regular preventive health check-ups. While most recognise the importance of early screenings, many still skip appointments due to common obstacles.

The study found a clear gap between awareness and action. Four out of five respondents said preventive healthcare matters, yet only a minority follow through. Men were less likely to attend than women, with just 34 percent going regularly compared to 49 percent of women.

Time constraints, forgetfulness, and logistical issues were the top reasons for missing appointments. Despite this, 61 percent felt well-informed about recommended screenings, while 34 percent admitted to knowing little or nothing about them. A strong majority—73 percent—believed digital reminders, like those offered by platforms such as Calendly, would improve their attendance rates.

The survey did not track changes in check-up frequency over the past five years, leaving trends in participation unclear.

The findings highlight a persistent challenge in healthcare engagement. Even with high awareness, practical barriers keep many from regular screenings. Digital solutions, such as reminders offered by services like Calendly, could play a key role in closing this gap.
