Regensburg's Free Lecture Helps Seniors Stay Independent at Home
The City of Regensburg's Senior Services Office is organising a free public lecture to help older adults stay independent at home. Aimed at seniors and their relatives, the event will share practical advice on safe living and available support networks. Experts will cover everything from home modifications to local volunteer programmes.
The lecture takes place on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at 2:30 PM in the Kneitinger Stüberl at the Kumpfmühl Community Center on Kumpfmühler Straße 52. Elfriede Windpassinger and Melanie Kagerer, staff members from the Senior Services Office, will lead the session.
Attendees will learn about age-friendly home renovations, such as installing grab bars or ramps. The speakers will also explain everyday assistance programmes and neighbourhood initiatives, including Regensburg's Friendly Neighbors project. Practical tips will cover both technical changes and how to connect with volunteer networks.
Bayern already has at least five similar local support schemes for seniors. These include Bürger für Bürger Wolfratshausen, Nachbarschaftshilfe Taufkirchen, and Familien- und Seniorenhilfe Oberhausen, all offering volunteer help for daily tasks. The event will highlight how such networks operate and how older adults can access them.
The lecture will give seniors and their families direct contacts for support services. Free to attend, it focuses on clear, actionable advice for maintaining independence at home. Organisers hope the session will help older residents feel more secure and connected in their daily lives.
