Lörrach's Active Home Visits Wins Baden-Württemberg's Top Prevention Award
A health initiative in Lörrach district has won Baden-Württemberg's Prevention Award for its work with older adults. The project, called Active Home Visits, sends volunteers to seniors' homes to improve mobility and reduce loneliness. Organisers received the prize on 24 March 2026 during a ceremony in Stuttgart. The scheme launched in 2019 under the Church Social Services of Southern Markgräflerland. It pairs trained movement mentors—around 60 volunteers—with elderly residents for personalised exercise sessions. These visits combine light physical activity with mental stimulation, all within the comfort of participants' own homes.
Healthcare and elder care specialists helped design the programme from the start. Judges highlighted its balanced focus on both body and mind, calling the approach *holistic*. As part of the award, the team received €5,000 in immediate funding. Officials also confirmed plans for €22,000 in annual support to keep the project running long term.
The Prevention Award brings recognition and financial backing to Active Home Visits. The funding will help maintain volunteer training and expand outreach across Lörrach district. With sustained support, the initiative aims to keep older adults active and connected in their communities.
