International rescue teams save injured hiker in Crete's Agura Gorge
A 52-year-old hiker was injured while exploring Agura Gorge in Crete on Monday evening. The man, who was trekking with his wife, required urgent rescue assistance after suffering an ankle injury near the waterfalls.
The incident occurred close to the meeting point of the Agura and Agurchik rivers, roughly 200 metres from the couple's location. Rescuers from the Hellenic Rescue Team (ERT), a volunteer group specialising in mountain rescues, responded to the call. The team stabilised the man's ankle with a splint before moving him to safety.
Support also came from Russia's Southern Regional Rescue Center of the Emergency Ministry (EMERCOM), whose off-road vehicle was used to transport the injured hiker. Once out of the gorge, he was handed over to ambulance medics for further treatment in the city.
The rescue operation involved both local and international teams working together. The hiker received immediate medical care before being taken to hospital. His condition has not been publicly updated since the incident.
