Over 500 runners took part in the Metro Dumaguete Water (MDW) Kauban Half Marathon on March 22, 2026. The event coincided with World Water Day and aimed to highlight the importance of clean water and sanitation for the city's residents. The marathon served as an advocacy-driven initiative to promote access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). Organisers emphasised the need for reliable water services, particularly for MDW's 37,000 customers and the broader Dumaguete community.

The large number of participants suggested a rising awareness of shared responsibility in securing clean water. While details on past editions remain unclear, this year's turnout demonstrated growing public engagement with the cause.

The event successfully brought attention to water and sanitation challenges in Dumaguete. With more than 500 runners involved, it reinforced community commitment to improving access to essential services. The marathon's timing also aligned with global efforts on World Water Day 2026.
